What is Pay Per View?

Pay-per-view (PPV) or pay-per-view video streaming is a business model for selling live events, pre-recorded movies, and television shows for one-time payments or subscriptions.

pay per view streaming platform

Users can use it to pay a set price to watch a single event on television or online. PPV streaming is frequently used for special occasions like movies, concerts, and other live events that are not available for free watching.

Consumers can pre-purchase the event for offline viewing or order as it is aired. In addition, there are many applications for PPV, including IPTV, cable, satellite, and on-demand streaming video.

How Does Pay-per-view (PPV) Work?

PPV works by letting users pay a predetermined amount to gain access to a specific piece of content.

A unique code or link to utilize to access the stream is typically provided once a user has purchased access to the content.

From a technical perspective, PPV streaming encrypts the content to prevent unauthorized access. This ensures that event organizers and content producers can efficiently sell video content because only viewers who have purchased access can view the stream.

There are many unique ways of charging for pay-per-view online content on a video streaming platform. It entirely depends on the genre of content with which you can charge your viewers.

Some of them are:

1. Accessibility To a Single Video

In this case, it allows you to generate surplus money from users who don’t want the pressure of accessing your content only in a restricted period of time. Many of them find this package more valuable as it gives them a chance to buy content with just one cost.

2. Reach via Any Special Occasion

Presuming in case you are charging for any special-featured event, such as a contest or a concert, virtual conference, or a play. Normally you may choose to base your event price charges on per-person. However, there might set in for challenges in order to bring users to the sponsored online event, as there might be a number of expectancies.

3. Streamline Educational Content

In some situations, you would love to sell your series of video courses to train a specific audience with a particular skill. In that case, you may fix prices based on market value for your precious educational content. Meanwhile, you can also research on how other players in your industry change for similar courses & price them competitively. Ultimately PPV content gives you more control over how the content is presented to your audience.

Why Choose Pay-Per-View Streaming?

There are many reasons for choosing pay-per-view vod hosting platforms. Premium content is usually offered at a higher rate by broadcast network & give video content producers full rights to charge their followers as much ever they want to.

pay per view platform

For example, if we consider Diney+, they adopt a model of this sort when it comes to new release movies as they charge more to watch the premium content at home, which has a chance of ranking on top of the monthly fee.

And there are many more reasons for you to monetize on-demand or live-streaming content. Here are some to consider:

  • Prime Ancillary Benefactor

Live streaming goes beyond expected ROI and can give deeper insight into your pay-per-view app. Collect core audience insights for you to enhance your content production quality over time.

  • Diversification Into Variety Of Markets

i) Many industries are embracing the PPV model. It is basically designed to push out non-subscribers & bring in consumers who find content more appealing, even if the price is a little higher.

ii) Now, we are seeing the shift of digital streaming that’s with offline downloading, where cable providers like Viacom and Warner Media want to shift their infrastructures. They are looking for a focused genre in order to appeal to viewers rather than streaming content as a bundle.

iii) Even, if at all you think no one will pay for your exclusive content, you’d be surprised at some of the unique pay-per-view live OTT events that have been engaging in the past. With micro targeting you can find enough demand, & therefore monetization of wide variety of content becomes easy.

  • Financial Push

If done correctly, live streaming on a PPV platform could prove to be lucrative! All the more, the fact gets valuable when you are able to share your precious content across core audiences! Certainly, you might consider bridging the gap of content & its viewers.

Additionally, live streaming costs are high, and it needs to stay accountable. To elaborate on that, there are equipment costs, bandwidth, and provider costs, to name a few. Mostly, it works to video broadcaster’s advantage only when people can view the content they are interested in

Guidelines for Pricing and Access to Pay-Per-View Content

To optimize revenue and provide great value to your target audience, it is necessary that you provide access that is at least twice the length of the content and clearly communicate access information prior. Also, you should research competitors, offer value through leveled pricing, and be open to adjusting pricing to build a loyal customer base in the long run. Let’s go over all of the information provided in detail.

1. Consider Access Duration

When setting pricing for pay-per-view content, one of the most important factors you need to take into account is the access duration. It is important to give viewers enough time to watch the content, but not so much that this creates an opportunity for them to share it with others who haven’t paid for it. As a thumb rule in the industry, you should provide access that is at least double the length of the content. This will allow viewers to re-watch the content, catch up on missed parts, or troubleshoot technical issues without worrying much about losing access.

2. Provide Clear Access to Information

You should also ensure that you clearly communicate the access time and restrictions to viewers. It is important to be transparent about when the access will start and end and any limitations on how many times the content can be viewed. Apart from this, if there is any special viewing requirement – browser or internet speed- you must mention those prior. This will help eliminate confusion and ensure an immersive viewing experience for your end-users.

3. Research Competitors and Offer Value

To ensure that your offering is competitive and offers value, it becomes highly important to know what your competitors offer and compare their pricing. You should know what makes your content unique or superior and use that as a unique selling point. By the way, this step can help you reach an audience of various geographical locations and ensure that you are providing the best value possible.

4. Be Open to Adjusting Pricing

It is important to be open to adjusting your pricing and offering various promotions or discounts to attract new users or reward the existing loyal customer base. Finding the right pricing point for your audience and business may go through a lot of trial and error. But, don’t lose hope from it; continuously monitor your pricing and adjust as necessary so that your content is accessible and appealing to your target market.

By following these guidelines, you can effectively price and provide access to pay-per-view content that meets the needs of both your audience and your online streaming business. Also, this can help you build a loyal user base and maximize your revenue potential to the next level.

How To Get Started With Pay-Per-View Streaming?

To get started with pay-per-view streaming, it involves 3 critical components.

  • Dominant Pricing
  • Accurate Timing
  • Advanced Hosting
pay per view

It is essential for you to decide on optimal pricing for any content of yours so that you are in a position to earn expected revenue without overcharging your viewers. And for this, it becomes necessary for you to offer multi-tiered pricing plans based on how long a viewer can realistically access the content.

Also, if at all you are planning to offer pay per view streaming services on rental-basis, it becomes necessary for you to ensure with content, that’s available for longer than video duration.

It’s just as important to choose the right best OTT platforms in order to host. While you may find plenty of fee & paid hosting options, you may cross your way with the fact that not all of them would be favoring pay-per-view streaming. Also, it is becoming pivotal with the platform’s rapidness, reliability & security.

5 Things To Consider Before Choosing Your Pay-Per-View Platform

As PPV video platforms have many factors to consider, you could determine which is most suitable for your content.

Before getting into any streaming plan, you can start answering a set of questions such as:

  • Does it particularly have a global CDN?
  • If there is a scenario of mobile streaming support, how much does the software cost?
  • Can it provide its support across all devices?
  • Does it have plans to match your business needs?
  • Will it be scalable as you grow your streaming business?

Let’s look into more of it below.

1. Ensure To Broadcast OTT Pay-per-views Worldwide

The quality of your streams is hugely impacted by the content delivery network which are used pivotally across OTT platforms. When you look into how does PPV work, the CDN answers this question by broadcasting content into specific regions to your inparticular audience. If your user-base is situated across the globe, then you’ll need video CDN which helps to distribute streams at any location or region you name.

2. Deliver Hassle-free Video Hosting Across Devices

Major criteria that you may want to consider, is whether your ppv streaming platform supports mobile streaming so that your viewers can access content that is unrestricted to a device. These days, mostly users prefer a platform that’s flexible in terms of content playability. In other words, they seek a domain where they can stream pay-per-view live on OTT Tv apps, sites from their smartphone, tablets, smart tv, PCs, etc.

3. Cost Of Services

When we look into how much profitable money does pay per view services can provide you.. Then let me tell you it will purely depend on software & its range of customization that you prefer with. Most services are opted with multi-tiered pricing models which consists of a system with in-stream purchasing & redeeming credits. It becomes vital for you to analyze the actual need of PPV streaming services in order to quickly scale it.

4. Get Inbuilt Video Content Management System

A streaming service with PPV is only effective in the long run just as like having an inbuilt video CMS. If at all it’s intuitveness to access & easy-to-use feature wouldn’t be there, then your company’s content can have a chance to have certain limitations. Definitely a CMS is needed for your assets to be easily organized, managing to monetize your content frequently without any restrictions.

5. Make Sense Of Your Growth Plan

Initially at the beginning of your company’s online video platform, first learning of how to set up PPV video takes place. Then a smaller price tier lets them experiment & slowly learn its workflow to manage its content. As you grow more, you may look for a full-fledged streaming solution. It goes without saying that you’ll want to upscale with it fully, reaping its maximum potential.

Conclusion:

In a case you want to live stream but you’re not a the one who owns content rights, you can still succeed in getting into the game with PPV.  Without PPV, there is a chance of you investing out of your pocket to acquire the rights to stream content. With pay-per-view streaming, you’re not paying anything to any entity for streaming rights.. Instead it just splits with further process.

All you need to know is you deserve most money for your content by selecting remunerative model as you can place your content behind the paywall that accumulates money to your wallet with each view.

We want to upgrade our platform for better content security, piracy proof, handle larger traffic etc. We have requirements for ongoing development works for our platform. If you/your company is interested in handling such assignments, please drop a line. We can take it forward through a video call. Thanks and regards, Somnath Ghosh, My CinemaHall Pvt. Ltd.

Currently using an entry level OTT platform saas. They are not able to offer subscription tiers (either free or one price). Looking to possibly upgrade. Just received a relatively nice offer from another provider. I would like to speak to you about your offering. We’ve been streaming for just under a year. We would like to offer multi-tier subscription packages. We also are interested in live streaming, pay per view app and being able to become part of ad networks.

Hello. I would like to start a VOD platform where I distribute my prerecorded and sell it to my content. I was thinking about doing it as a pay per view video platform but also perhaps in the future provide livestreams as well. My focus will firstly be towards beginner level for guitar and piano. But later also for more advanced instrumentalists. I would like to somehow integrate it on my own website. Is that possible or must every video go through your platform? How is it also with the rights of the videos? When I upload it will I still have all the rights for it? Which types of payment methods do you provide for my customers?

HI, I’m looking mostly for a VOD platform where I can create a library of fitness videos for my clients. A monetizing system would be great, with a subscription where I can select which videos and how long they can watch, or a pay-per-view, or a credit system where they pay an amount in advance and then they use this credit to buy and watch videos.

Hello, Could you tell me your prices? I’m going to film the end of year show for an association where I’m a volunteer. I would like to propose these videos via a vod diffusion platform by proposing to pay by watched video (PPV streaming). The show lasts about 1h30, each video lasts about 5 minutes in good quality, the number of users would be about 100 and they watch on average 2 or 3 times the video. Is your solution adapted to my needs? Have a nice day,
